The Ballad of Dope & Coke Pt. 1 (Live)

from Live @ Pete's Candy Store by Marc Delgado

/

about

A poem from my first book: The Black Socks. A book of poems & stories & other stuff that may or may not have happened

lyrics

Rain spills from the roof
& down the window
As if there is no air
Only water & soon
We will all be submerged.
The latch rattles in the wind.

Once when I was five
I slipped along the bottom
Of an underground pool
That had been emptied out
& fell backwards striking
The back of my head.

It was like walking
Along the surface of the moon
Which I have always wanted
To do, or, maybe, meandering
The dunes of Mars
in defiance of the atmosphere.

Who cares if it rains
Or if the wind becomes forceful
enough to unwind me
From my spot on the earth.
I was never here anyway.
I was always somewhere else.

& now that I have achieved greatness
I can relax. I can spend all day
Staring into the expiring sun
The one thing I have never understood
& have relied upon entirely
To keep me from turning into stone.
